Word Study
Our Word Study program consists of a 3 week introduction to Fundations. During this time, we review counting syllables, syllable types, and domain specific vocabulary words that will help us study our words (such as prefixes, suffixes, and roots). Then, students take a diagnostic assessment consisting of 31 words to determine their areas of growth.
Students spend the remainder of the year in differentiated instructional groups based on areas for growth determined by their teachers. They will be given weekly word sorts to study and practice with for ten minutes a day. Each group meets with the teacher once a week. Students who are not working with the teacher have a choice board of activities that they can partake in during their ten minutes time. You can see an example of a choice board below:
