Reading Units of Study
6th Grade Units of StudyUnit 1: A Deep Study of Character Students will work in reading partnerships to analyze different aspects of the characters in their books. Unit 2: Tapping into the Power of Nonfiction Students will research a topic of interest by reading books, articles, and virtual texts Unit 3: Close Reading Students will study short stories and poems while practicing the strategies of annotating and rereading. Unit 4: Social Issues Book Clubs Students participate in book clubs in which they read fiction texts that contain real world issues. Unit 5: Historical Fiction Students participate in book clubs in which they explore a real historical setting through fictional characters. |
7th Grade Units of StudyUnit 1: Studying Characters Across a Series Students will analyze characters as they change across the same series of books. Unit 2: Critical Literacies Students will think critically about their texts and challenge their thinking Unit 3: Nonfiction Reading Students will dive into nonfiction texts of interest to learn more about various topics Unit 4: Historical Fiction Students learn all about the historical setting of a fictional text and how it impacts their characters. Unit 5: Dystopian Book Clubs Students will participate in a genre study of Dystopian literature and how it reflect the world around them. |
