Hi, I'm Ms. Kern!
A Little About Me
Hi, my name is Ms. Kern, and I am so excited to be your teacher this year. I am a third year ILA teacher at Hammarskjold Middle School. I graduated from Rutgers University in 2016 with a masters degree in English education and a certification in educational technology. I strongly believe in incorporating multimedia such as videos, e-books and audiobooks into the classroom to enrich students' experiences! I am also a believer that reading should be fun! I love running, training Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and (of course) reading. My favorite reads are fantasy, narrative nonfiction, and mystery novels. As a Hufflepuff and a huge fan of the Harry Potter world, I encourage students to find a series that they love.
My goal for every school year is to help every student find something that they enjoy about reading and writing.
Best Ways to Reach Me
Please check Parent Access frequently for updates on your child’s grades and progress. Although being in middle school comes with a whole new set of expectations and challenges, I have confidence that your child will work hard every day to be the best reader and writer that they can be!
I am able during lunch and most days after school. Please, encourage your child to reach out to me in class or via email at [email protected]. I respond to emails within one school day. You may also set up a time to conference with me over the phone during school hours.
